It's a blizzard

I have spent most of the day picking up the house and cleaning. Unfortunately, there seems to be an unseen force working against me to mess up what only moments ago was tidy. Their names are "not me", "I didn't do it", "wasn't me" and "I don't know", but they look and act an awful lot like my four lovely children. In the words of the great Erma Bombeck, "Cleaning house with children is like shoveling snow during a blizzard."

Upon asking my oldest son (for the 2nd time in 10 minutes) to do a small task, he replied, "But I didn't make the mess." Apparently there seems to be a small disconnect between his brain and his mouth, causing him to say things he surely doesn't mean.

Ever so calmly (!) I explained to him that I had spent the entire day cleaning up messes I didn't make, laundering clothes I didn't wear, washing dishes I didn't eat on and cooking food I did not consume. After my calm little tirade (yes, that is an oxymoron), I would venture to guess he will never again utter those words in my presence...at least not if he's smart.

  1. I have some children with those very same names. Imagine that:) Hope all is well with you. I find it hard to believe Greyson and Isaiah are both 7 now. Impossible. I don't like to think about Jacob turning 4

  2. Mr. Nobody. That's who is to blame for all the mishaps and messes at my house!
And I have given my kids that same speech - about the messes I clean up, the clothes I wash, etc. Hoping it gets through to them some day. *weary grin*

  3. I keep wondering what will happen if I go on strike. Would anything get done? Would we get so snowed in that we'd never be able to dig ourselves out. Help!!!

  4. Reminds me of the Family Circus comics. They're so much less funny in real life. I've given that calm little tirade a time or two myself.

  5. Welcome to Blogspot. I don't see too many Christian home school blogs outside of the homeschool blogger. So welcome. My blog is not about home schooling per se though I have been teaching for 15 years. You've got a nice blog. Lord bless, Cathy Glass
