Stainless steel fridge - it's a dry erase board!

Like most families, the front of our fridge has always been the command station/art gallery/catch-all.  Covered in creations and family photos, it makes me smile to look at.

Fast forward to our new home in Texas and our stainless steel refrigerator. Unbeknownst to me when we purchased it, the front of our fridge is NOT magnetic.  Hu?  What's up with that?  Granted, the clean, unadorned fridge looks tidy, but I miss our eclectic assortment of keepsakes.

So yesterday I was trying to figure out a central location to leave notes and such for the kids.  I was tired of asking them, "Have you done XYZ?" and wanted a checklist they could refer to.  My first plan was to purchase chalkboard contact paper to cover one of the cabinets with...pretty good plan.  Then it hit me - I could write on the front of my empty, non-magnetic fridge!

I first tried an inconspicuous spot to make sure it would come off.  It did!  Then I set to work on my list for the day.  (Sorry for the bad pic...hard for this novice to get a photo of something shiny without a reflection.)

Now I have an obvious place to leave notes/lists for the kids.  As many times as they get into the fridge everyday, they have no excuse to say they didn't see it!  Best part - it didn't cost me a penny!  Oh, I love free ideas!

  1. Don't take a chance on ruining your beautiful stainless steel fridge by writing directly on it. Instead get ThoughtOnBoard (http://ThoughtOnBoard.com), a suction cup dry-erase board that sticks to smooth surfaces. Check it out
