Hope through the eyes of a blogger

Shannon at Rocks in my Dryer is one of several bloggers chosen by Compassion International to travel to Africa for ten days and blog about the relief efforts in Uganda.

Think you've got it tough? Check out
Shannon's post as she describes meeting a single mother of five living in a six foot by eight foot room and selling fried plantains to support her family. Or read the description of a mother's whose young son lays sick with sickle cell anemia. They live in a small home with a dirt floor, yet it is kept spotlessly clean.

Seeing these things so closely through Shannon's eyes stands in stark contrast to the things I allow myself to get upset over. I lament the fact I don't have enough alone time, while these women are fighting for the survival of their families. Wow. How selfish can I be and still breath?

Take a moment to look deeply into the eyes of these African children. Hear their stories and be challenged to change. I know I have been.

  1. Hello from a fellow Texan. I invite you to visit my new blog. I also have enjoyed following Shannon and the others on the Compassion trip to Uganda, I have been moved to pray for them. Compssion International does great work.

I shall be reading your blog!

  2. Wow! Sobering indeed!
The trouble I'm having at this very moment, sitting in front of my flat screen computer moniter, in my huge house, cluttered with so much STUFF, is that we actually sponsor a Compassion child, and I can't remember the last time I wrote to her, or truthfully, even prayed for her. Talk about conviction!

  3. What an awesome experience for Shannon - and the rest of us through her blog. Thanks for the link, as I have not read her blog in a very long time and had no idea she was doing this.

  4. You asked about the BM study I am doing. I have heard so many wonderful things about her studies, but I am having a really hard time getting into this one. It may be for a couple of reasons. First, the last study I did, by Jennifer Rothschild, was so wonderful, it is hard to compare another study to it. Secondly, I may have just built it up too much in my mind and it just can't live up to the hype. But, nevertheless, I am going to stick it out at least a little while longer and see if it grows on me.
